Alexandra Skaya is a Berlin-based composer, pianist, and film composer.
Her musical journey began at the age of seven when she first encountered the piano, marking the inception of her dedication to music. By the age of eight, she was already crafting her own compositions. Formally trained in classical piano, composition, and orchestration, Alexandra earned degrees from the Academy of Music in Minsk and the University of Arts in Berlin. Her academic pursuits further extended to master studies in film music at the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF.
Her body of work includes instrumental and vocal music, electro-acoustic compositions, and scores for feature films. Noteworthy among her latest contributions are those to the Japanese-Taiwanese documentary 'Out There' (D.: Takehiro Ito; Festival international de cinéma de Marseille, 2016; International Film Festival Rotterdam 2017) and the German-Indian feature film 'Dust' (D.: Udita Bhargava; Berlin International Film Festival, 2019).
In 2019, Alexandra was invited as one of the Berlinale Talents.
As a concert pianist, she has performed alongside various orchestras, including the Minsk Philharmonic Orchestra, the Saint-Petersburg Radio and TV Orchestra, and the Chamber Orchestra Potsdam, Germany.
Drawing inspiration from a rich tapestry of musical eras, Alexandra's compositions fuse classical sensibilities with a contemporary twist. Her works bear the influence of baroque, romanticism, impressionism, while seamlessly embracing a minimalist aesthetic. Additionally, her deep-seated appreciation for pop culture infuses her music with its elements, creating a unique sonic expression.
In the coming year, Alexandra will present music that is very close to her heart — a piano solo album featuring one of her earliest works.
